Software Systems Safety is generally defined as the efforts to optimise systems safety within systems engineering lifecycles and its integration into existing operational environment. The importance of software systems safety is indisputable with increasing redesign and development of military systems.
Despite the efforts to prevent software failures, militaries still face systems breakdown due to software upgrades, despite pre-testing of the software. These problems are likely to occur due to poor integration of software modules, resulting in failure in systems performance.
In view of this, most militaries develop software safety frameworks, to allow systematic approach to conduct software design, development, testing and integration efforts. Whilst drafting out the processes, engineers have to bear in mind the importance of software requirements and specifications analysis to ensure timely delivery of desired capabilities.
The course is intended to provide an overview of systems safety basics to establish a common understanding among delegates; however, the focus of the course would be to address the complexity and challenges those engineers and programme managers have in assuring software safety within a military systems context.
